As I have stated in the December IWA Blog, developing and designing fictional tales takes patience, preparation, and perseverance—along with mixing wild imagination with fascinating storytelling. The joy of creating new materials demands hard work and is self-evident.
Once publishing a work, the writer will experience the unexpected. That element is having the confidence in believing that the finished product is worthy of critical review, promotion, and selling. In other words, sometimes it is easier “to sell” someone else’s product than your own. Through self-reflection and the sharing of others, I would suggest that three factors may guide the author as they seek to expose their fiction books to the world of readers.  Everyone has that writing project that they want to see in print. But the actual getting the “writing” part of the project done is the hard part. Whether it’s a book you have always wanted to write or a series of short essays you wanted to share or the long poem you wanted to write down, you have to actually write it for the project to come to life. And the best way to do this is to create a writing schedule – and stick to it.
Creating a fantasy adventure can be more exciting than living the fantasy adventure. Although extremely rewarding and fun, designing such literature takes preparation and persistence, mixed with wild imagination and orderly, but fascinating storytelling.
As author of the So Many Secrets fantasy adventure series, I have discovered the joy and challenges of writing, especially in creating five published books that are sequential (two more books to follow). One of the challenges was to fashion believable characters, which readers could relate to and empathize with as they enter into one incredible adventure after another. Educated people primarily learn from observation, listening, and reading. The human mind is designed for education. The word “education” comes from the Latin word, “educare”…which means: to raise up, to rear, to bring forth: a talent or skill which is already a potential within the individual.
I want to focus on the effects of reading. It is a process by which the symbols of any given language are assembled to create words…and every WORD represents a concept or serves a purpose in the clarification of some concept or idea. Words serve a purpose to both the writer and the reader. Obtaining the skill of reading makes it possible for the one who reads, “the reader”, to receive ideas and concepts from “the writer”. The writer is the individual who provides the ideas and concepts by way of written language. How writers can cope living in the covid-19 eraIn the middle of 2019 I had high hopes for 2020. My daughter was transitioning from a baby to a toddler, allowing me more writing time. I had a couple of projects near completion. The biggest thing I was excited about was hitting the road.
A big revenue stream for me was the live events. I would pack up my books, tent, tables, tech and giveaways and load them all in the car. I would drive to the craft show or event that I was scheduled for, set up show and start my day. During the time, I would sell books, shake hands, kiss babies, talk with readers, get ignored, eat some food I shouldn’t have eaten, reject ghostwriting offers and people watch. At the end of the day, if successful, I would have little to any books and more money than what I came with. For me that is one of the joys of writing. I loved interacting with people and hearing their thoughts. Like writers, readers are a unique bunch. I purchased a new vehicle so I could branch out more and see new places where people don’t know me and attempt to sell there. I wanted to have a stronger foothold on my state and increase my readership. |
